Without healthy soil, nothing will grow well. So it stands to reason that if you want a healthy lawn, you need healthy soil.
But what does healthy soil look like? It's pretty simple: It's got minerals (sand, clay, loam), organic matter (dead plants and living organisms), water and air. If any one of those things is out of whack, your lawn's gonna suffer.
Our Good Sweet Earth organic lawn fertilization program is designed to create a healthy balance in your soil, and ultimately healthy and beautiful turf.
When you sign up for our lawn fertilization program, we'll apply a Worm Compost + Kelp Tea (a soil drench made from vermicompost and soluble kelp) monthly, from May through October. This provides the living microorganisms your soil needs to break down dead plant matter. Without living organisms, you get compaction, thatch and sterile soil. We'll drench your lawn with the Tea to add those beneficial microorganisms. Our Tea also adds micronutrients you don't typically find in synthetic chemical fertilizers.
Additionally, when you sign up for our monthly Tea applications, we'll give you enough Alfalfa Blend Lawn Fertilizer to fertilize your lawn in both the spring and fall. We make our Alfalfa Blend Fertilizer with three ingredients: alfalfa meal, dried distillers grains and kelp. The pellets serve as a food for the microbes in the Tea, and as they break down into compost, they release nutrients into the soil for your turf, slowly and safely.
But what about weeds? There's not really a quick fix to kill weeds organically, but there are things we can do to reduce the amount of weeds in your yard. Nature loves biodiversity-- that's what weeds are. It's an example of nature filling empty space in your lawn with something-- maybe that something is a dandelion or thistle or crabgrass. Often that empty space can be as small as a dime; weed seeds will still find it! Our organic fertilization program works to fill those gaps in with grass, and limit the biodiversity to a healthy level.
Because here's the thing: Some biodiversity is healthy. It helps fight off disease and pests. It helps keep nature balanced in your yard-- too much of any one thing can create problems. We're never going to promise you a "weed-free" lawn because that's just not natural, and we're all about working with nature to give you a healthy lawn you can be proud of.
Want to learn more? Give us a little info about yourself below and we'll be in touch. If you're a West Michigander (Kent, Ottawa, Allegan or Muskegon Counties), we'd love to get to work on your lawn!
